The Importance of Firmware Updates

Regular firmware updates are essential for maintaining the security and functionality of your hardware wallet. Our security team continuously works to enhance protection against emerging threats, add support for new cryptocurrencies, and improve the user experience.

Each firmware update undergoes rigorous security testing and code review before release. Our secure update process ensures that only authentic, verified firmware can be installed on your device, protecting you from malicious firmware attacks.

We recommend checking for updates monthly to ensure your device has the latest security features and cryptocurrency support.

Secure Update Process

How we ensure safe firmware updates

1

Cryptographic Verification

All firmware updates are cryptographically signed by multiple Dylimu developers. Your device verifies these signatures before accepting any update, ensuring that only authentic firmware from our development team can be installed.

2

Secure Boot Process

Our devices implement a secure boot chain that verifies the integrity of the firmware at every startup. This prevents modified or compromised firmware from running on your device, even if an attacker gains physical access.

3

Update Verification

During the update process, your device displays a unique verification code that you can check against our published values. This prevents man-in-the-middle attacks that might try to install malicious firmware.

Firmware Update FAQ

Common questions about updating your device

No, updating your firmware will not affect your cryptocurrencies. Your private keys are derived from your recovery seed phrase, which remains unchanged during updates. However, as a precaution, we always recommend ensuring you have your recovery phrase backed up before performing any firmware update.

Our devices are designed with a dual-bank firmware architecture that prevents bricking if an update is interrupted. If the update process fails, your device will revert to the previous firmware version. You can then attempt the update again. In the rare case that your device becomes unresponsive, you can use your recovery seed phrase to restore your accounts on a new device.

You can generally update directly to the latest firmware version without installing intermediate updates. Our update system will automatically handle the necessary changes. However, in some cases involving major version changes (e.g., v2.x to v3.x), a specific update path might be required, which our desktop application will guide you through.

During the update process, your device will display a verification code. You should compare this code with the one published on our official website to ensure you're installing authentic firmware. Additionally, our desktop application verifies the cryptographic signatures of all firmware packages before sending them to your device.

We strongly recommend keeping your device updated with the latest firmware. Older versions may lack important security patches or support for newer cryptocurrencies. While your existing cryptocurrencies will remain secure, using outdated firmware could potentially expose you to known security vulnerabilities that have been fixed in newer versions.
